Candles
Grand idea. Count me in for the Blackoutsabboth and magnets.
Are you using soy candles for the show on March 19th? Wish I could be there. Just saw you in Tarrytown and Los Angeles. Will see you in Solano Beach next month.

Rufus being the vocal bible of this lone frog with sprogs family,
I shared Blackout Sabbath news over exquisite French pastry,
Here is the thought of the 6 years little mouse :
“Couldn’t we please both Jesus and Rufus
Who both want to see the planet right
By eating dinner by candlelight
For the length of lent?”
And so doing we learn time – time to light a candle, watch the immemorial flame, time to breathe warmth – and beauty, faces lit by George de la Tour, eyes coruscating softly in shadows, fascination of the endless gesture once again reborn.
Allez venez Milord…
Truly this can only be a grass roots movement, people shall not be coerced to love the ground they breathe on or it would be pointless. But for Blackout Sabbath to work it needs to be widespread, ripple through Earth… wouldn’t it be beautiful if satellites taking pictures on the night of June 21st caught only shadows rather than the light, only night on earth (that would please Jim Jarmush I venture!)? And for people to know and spread the message, what best than a song, a kind of marching anthem? I’m sure Rufus you wouldn’t object. I can contribute the following words, who would make music for them?
Green snow toppling down black mountain streams
Red clouds in the scorched iridescent sky
Will we know how to stop the screams
Of Turner’s nightmare in hallucinogenic rye
Chorus:
Blackout Sabbath on June 21st
Blackout Sabbath to remember Earth
Stepping stone to light on June 21st
The smallest gesture for Earth and rebirth
They paint us pictures of suffocating lands
Not close enough, not burnt enough yet
Would it take only that I raise my hand
Would it take only that I don’t forget
(Chorus)
Will we run again fierce against the wind
Will we chant again bare in mountain streams
Will we have a laugh at Turner’s nightmare
As we gaze beyond to Earth blue green fair
(Chorus)
First of all, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Rufus, for a wonderful Valentine's Day Celebration within Radio City. What a way to spend my favorite holiday...with my children beside me and Sean Lennon, the Wainwright family, a superb band and you, Rufus, along with all the showbiz "piz ZAZ"! I'll send you magnets, if you like, and you can count on my family to particitpate in the BlackoutSabbath movement. With love and peace, Bridget O'Doy and family
I would love to put a widget on my blogs to help spread the word. Do you have a place where people can sign a petition online saying they are taking part in the challenge? I would love to help with this if you don't.
Dear Rufus,
Here are some additional ideas for you:
If you get a chance read 'the Omnivore's Dilemma', it's about where our food actually comes from. It's totally objective and extremely thought provoking. It will make you much more thoughtful about how you choose what to eat (ice cream is exempt from all moral judgement...).
Stop using styrofoam products,
For those big time spenders: Why do you need a vacation house? DO you realize all the extraneous energy you're using and the products you're wasting? Stop with the carbon credits (what a ripoff!) and scale back your lifestyle instead.
Turn off your blackberry/ IM/ MySPance use for one day. Call the person, write a letter, have someone over for tea.
We don't have to live these ridiculous lifestyles, always looking past the person we're with, to see if someone better is coming along. We don't need to do three things simultaneously, not appreciating or enjoying any of them. We don't have to have the best, the most expensive, be the coolest, have the best looking, smartest, wealthiest circle of 'friends'. The only thing we can do is make someone feel safe and loved and let them feel unconditionally accepted.
Sorry for spinning out into oblivion, but it's amazing what thinking about your life can do.
Thank you for being thoughtful about the quality of life and using your considerable influence to try to do something positive.
Hope to give you my magnet in person; nonetheless I'll be there.
Sincerely,
Cathy
