Just read that there will be a concert video coming out of Rufus performing his RTS show which was recently filmed and recorded at the Pabst Theatre, Milwaukee.
Is this great news or what? Hoping it will be available worldwide!

I, like many (if not all) of you am a big fan of Mr W. And, I like many (if not all) of you was waiting for Release the Stars long before it came out. Seeing as that was aboot (not a typo, i'm canadian) 3 months ago you'd think I would have already listened to it like many (if not all) of you have already. Well, i have not... I already made a topic months ago about how I was going to abstinize (did i just make that up?) from listening to the album until i was completely free of worries. They were at that point my final exams and worries aboot getting accepted at my new school. I am pleased to inform you that i succeeded in both. However as I am quite neurotic I kept waiting for the perfect time...I did that for three months. Now, I am on vacation in Morocco and thought it would be the perfect time to finally Release the Stars. The my ipod broke last week. Now, several manly hissyfits and some self inflicted cuts later, my ipod is fixed and I think i'm going to listen to it tonight. The perfect setting: at night,on top of the roof of our house here looking at the stars. (On the roof cause it's extremely hot inside, very normal on this hemisphere)
Hi People..... I posted a thread when RTS came out... called "Are You Disappointed?" In that I expressed my... disappointment with just the overall quality of the CD. Nothing you could put your finger on... voice still amazing... great arrangements... great artwork... all that.... but just not as classic as Want One.. Poses... but ever since yesterday... I have totally changed my mind.. I hadn't played the CD in quite along time... well about a month... and yesterday I had the house to myself and played it again and heard it it a totally different light... like hearing it again for the first time... and it sounded just wonderful... I can now say, in my opinion... RTS... was a slow burner... but it's official.. IT'S A CLASSIC!!!! Thanks for listening...lol...
I found this in Q magazine:www.kcrw.com.Its a radio session you can watch with him and his band. It has the first ever performance of Macushla. If you go to the Morning Becomes Eclectic page and type Rufus in the search it brings up the link.
There's a word I'm looking for to describe the theme of Release the Stars and I can't put my finger on it.
The album came out before I went to Munich and so the whole German theme is prevalent to me, but I don't really feel that Bavarian/Alpine/Prussian really covers it.
This weekend I heard Release the stars two times on Dutch radio, in American Connexion and The Sandwich, one time together with the announcement of his concert in Groningen. Did anybody heard more of this? Why is the concert still not mentioned on any of Rufus' lists??!!
Being a new fan of Rufus, and a singer/songwriter the latest cd is so beautiful, inspiring and uplifting. The production brings an atmosphere, and most of all there´s still some interesting sounds, instruments to discover in the beautiful contrapunctual arrangements. Thank you Rufus !
I'm a die-hard Rufus fan—I think it's safe to assume that we all are. Reading about the bonus track situation on this messageboard has got me all in a tizzy, and I think perhaps something can be done about it.
To recap, for those just joining us: 'Release the Stars' was released in mid-May, and it's great! Truly a pleasure to listen to from start to finish. That finish, though has been different for different groups of people, since different music retailers—iTunes, Best Buy and, inexplicably, Wal-Mart—have been peddling different bonus tracks for the album.
Now it seems to me that Rufus and his fanbase have a pretty great relationship. Most of us have been listening to—and supporting—him for years now. When he asks 'Do I Disappoint You?', who is he talking to, do you suppose? And the answer, of course, is no; of course we're not disappointed.
...but betrayed, maybe just a little bit. Perusing the website I see the different people have posted different solutions for obtaining the various extra tracks (although I'm a little bitter about 'Patience is a Virtue,' being a Mac user, and 'Cowboy Song,' since I didn't purchase the album from iTunes). But let's be real here, people: I've got a sinking feeling that, in the long run, we're all going to be required to buy some kind of EP edition containing the extra music, and this hardly seems like the right way to treat people who bought the album when it first came out.
On a significant footnote: when did Wal-Mart get involved in all of this? Has no-one brought it to their attention that Rufus is gay? I feel filthy for just going to their website, for Pete's sake.
I'm rambling. I apologize. I just figured that, since we have this great forum for discussion, and since historically the response from Rufus' PR folks has been pretty outstanding, it was worth expressing. I'm hoping some of you will back me up here.
Oh I have been so upset about the fact that I missed the pre sale tickets for the NYC show. Does anyone have one ticket? Please oh Please! ericagoldi@aol.com I'm on my knees with fingers crossed. Is anyone out there to help me? -Erica
these iare just my opinion.i dont mean to appear offensive or pompous about them.i want to know what you think..
its a beautifully crafted album, but according to me its also his most wholesome album.
my fav album is his debut, and want 1 is to gorgeous as are poses and want2.theyre lush, and grand and still in places personal and intimate and all,but sporadic like a roller coaster[which im not saying is bad] but RTS feels like all the songs germinate from the same time and space.the songs seem like they are part of one organism.
the album creates more of an atmosphere rather than trying to achieve singular greatness in each song[even though some songs are yes individually breathtaking]
Release the stars according to me is a very non aggressive album, like slideshow isnt as explosive as go or go ahead, the album is quite mellow maybe even meloncholic and has a sepia tinge to it. even his voice is alot softer as are the instruments.
to me its sounds a bit like the period great depression,i can visualise the great dust bowl.
this is just what i think.obviously others have different opinions.
i want to know what you think of the general feel of RTS?
Hi fellow Rufus Fans... I'm a big Rufus fan and have been ever since I heard him utter the very first note on Want One... I then bought Want Two and his complete back catalogue.... and have been obsessed ever since. I waited eagerly to hear Relaese The Stars and when I got to hear the first track released from it "Going To A Town" I must say, I was overwhelmed at how beautiful a song it was... much simpler and more confident and mature than his previous work... so with this in mind... the pending release of Release The Stars for me was the biggest thing in my musical calendar... :):) I couldn't wait for it to arrive via an inernt purchase, so the Friday before it was released I went to my local Virgin Megastore in Cork, Ireland and begged a manager there )who I know) to release a copy to me... and he did... the anticipation of my ears to hear the very first few bars of music on this CD was incredible. I raced back to my car to let my CD player suck the reflective CD into its mouth... turned it up half way... and off started Do I Disappoint You?? sounded good... flicked to next track... ahhhhh... the brilliance of Going to a Town... but then... Tiergarten.... and I started to get a little suspicious of how the other track would be like... so I flicked through them all... letting them play to get a flavour... I then got home and played the album in full... on my headphones... with no disruptions... now this is my thing... I just don't think it's as good as either of the previous Want Albums... or even Poses or his debut "Rufus Wainwright". Of course there are some great stand out tracks... some great delicate vocals.. arrangements... but there's no "Natasha" on this CD.... no "Vicious World", no "Vibrate". I love the ending to "Slideshow" where is slows in tempo and the lyrics and vocals are just magical... I also love "Leaving for Paris" but a "Dinner at Eight" it isn't. Don't get me wrong... I do love the album... I couldn't hand on heart say it's bad... but there seems to be something missing... it's not as personal as the previous albums... it's glossy and fluffy... and I worry I won't be playing it in one months time... maybe I just love the other albums far tooo much... maybe I'm over analysing... but I would love to know what other Rufus fans think... either if you agree or not...
So that's my little five cents worth...
Yours sincerely, Anthony Irish Rufus Fan and Addict
How many of us were able to obtain an RTS poster? What better way to generate conversation with friends unfamilar to Rufus than to have them admire your poster ? Problem is.... there are no posters being sold except those that were stolen from somewhere and are on ebay. Cummon MCT/Geffen- give members of this board access to purchase/obtain the RTS poster! It makes fans happy and helps promote Rufus!
It only has 12 songs. I asked if they had some special edition and nothing and I didn't want to wait for amazon...
BTW I'm still assimilating the new songs. I'm liking it but of course I'll need a few more hearing to get into it and It's not an easy album :) Rufus is so beautiful and precious. Thanks.
So far the songs that called more attention were Not Ready To Love and Tulsa but I didn't listen the entire album yet. *SIGH* I don't want it to end. Hehe!
I didn't know Rufus was releasing the Judy Garland CD/DVD. Great news, really. I really want that. Maybe I'm buying it in London in September. Can't wait.
So about the extra bonus songs? I do I get them? I really want to hear them! :(
What do you guys think about the "Going to a Town" video? Is it doing the song justice, and is it a repeated theme of the Jesus crucificition? Or, does it completely capture and symbolize the deep meaning behind these truth-packed lyrics?
as i was listening to this i thought, yes rufus you could write a fantastic opera if this is a taster of what is to come. it was great to just concentrate on the music.WOW!!! i love it.
Hey, I was just wondering about the album you all got. Does it have rounded corners and look like this (http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t72/releasethestars/2007_0518Image0007.jpg) ? I live in Ireland, but my friend in the US got one with square corners which looks like the one on the rufuswainwright.com mainpage.
What the hell, I was going through all of them. I love Rufus and I tried to hold off listening to RTS but I failed miserably. He never fails to be brilliant. I love it. Though in saying that if he were to fart in a studio and release it I'd love it. Rufus is my religion.
The American Version sold at Best Buy stores comes with a coupon with a code on it; you're told to take "three easy steps" to download the tracks, which are "Lowgrade Happiness" & "Old Paint." Well, I spent an hour on the phone to customer support in India, at least an hour at Best Buy--they finally were able to download the tracks to my memory stick, but when I got home, the files told my computer that they needed a DMR Security update to open the files, but I don't have the Internet at home, and the computers I use with the Internet don't have something or other and won't open the files.
THIS IS NOT THREE EASY STEPS. I PAYED FOR THE CD, AT THE PLACE WHERE THESE TRACKS WERE OFFERED. ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW TO GO ABOUT GETTING THEM? My enjoyment of the album--which is really good to GREAT, by the way. "Between My Legs" is awesome, for one--is severly detracted by the hours I've spent trying TO GET WHAT I WAS SOLD.
Hey guys, I know this is a long shot, because we've been waiting for any sheet music forever, but is there any word on sheet music for Release the Stars? Anyone else interested?
What are people's views on the production of this album.
Please comment especially on sound quality, mix and so on.
I have a hearing impairment but have had others say to me that this particular CD is badly mixed. I have to say I found it hard to listen to in the car without keep on turning it up and down and on the home player I had to turn the bass down considerably to even hear Rufus.
i'm so glad this song was released to fans, after it did not appear on the album itself. many fans have already posted comments about this song on the other board, but i figured a new thread here wouldn't hurt...
your thoughts on this bonus track? i'm glad fans are finally able to hear a complete version. it's a tad overdone too me, but i probably feel that was simply because i loved the raw, emotional, live version.
