I am a new rufus fan thanks to my son and i would like to see the lyrics to his songs online. i can't get to that topic because it is covered by a black rectangle and/or a black design at the upper right top of homepage....help...how do i get to rufus lyrics?...thank you
I love randomly coming accross Rufus tracks which i've never heard before!! Just found this on Tescodownloads.com. Thought i'd stick it on here just in case some others haven't had the pleasure of hearing it yet!
I heard Rufus on Radio 2 yesterday talking about a time when he covered Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. Does anyone know where I can download a copy of this, it's one of my favourites, and apparently Carole King thought it was one of the best versions that she'd ever heard. Of course.
Hello :) Completely new here and to the wonderful voice of Rufus. I LOVED the song on Shrek and looked up who did it and am now officially obsessed, with this song at least. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was featured on an episode of ER? I dont see it mentioned anywhere, and I swear I just heard it recently (I am pretty sure that is where). Also~ what are your thoughts and feelings (what the song may have meant to him, what it means to you, ect.)
for loving Rufus cause he's different? Or younger for that matter..I'll admit Rufus is kind of a more sophisticated artist and not something a teenager would generally love but i can't help it...This is the artist I've always dreamt of coming across and he has been since i was 15..1anyone else have crappy friends?
Hi! I'm a big fan of Rufus and I really want to find the partitions of Agnus Dei (Want two) for my wedding ceremony. That song is very symbolic for me and I am searching very hard on Internet and specialize boutique and I find nothing. Did sombody knows where I can find it? Are they exist? Please, help me !
So, I've never really heard a Rufus Wainwright song in my life. But I have the performance he did with Ben Folds of Careless Whisper and I absolutely adore it. I wonder if any of you could point me toward an album that I should look to buy?

Yesterday I read in our Dutch newspaper Trouw that Rufus is writing an (his first?) opera now for de New York Metropolitan Opera, called "Prima Donna" with a French libretto. Who knows more about it???
Ok ok a bit controversial I know but we've got all the forum topics listing the ones we love I just wanted to know if there were any songs you aren't so keen on!
For me I just can't get along with Harvester of Hearts, he just sounds a bit whiny and needs to get over it....lovely horn section though.
Just thought I'd throw in a new track - I know it's an old one but I simply love this song - Rufus and Kristian Hoffman singing it together. It was only until I listened to it on my mp3 that I caught the small instrumental section of 'I'm off to see the wizard.' The subject is sad but the lyrics and music are just thought provoking.
Just wondering if anyone knew whether there were any albums that were simply performed accoustically or live perhaps. I prefer rufus's songs when they are played without any studio effects - just one man and a piano/guitar.
I'm just wondering if anybody could list the songs that Rufus has done for all the soundtracks he has done? (the Title of the songs btw not just the movie)
I have been trying to understand what it is that makes Rufus's voice so wonderful and why i would much rather listen to it alone at the piano or with some strings only. I have a friend who has studied singing and is heavily into Schubert and earlier classical vocal stuff. We took him to see Rufus in Bristol in 2005 and he really liked him. He came to stay with us this weekend (he lives in France) and we were droning on at him about the Judy concert, the new album and the current tour and bombarding him with Rufus's music. At one stage I mentioned that Rufus seemed to sing two notes at once, which gave him his distinctive sound.
Our friend said that Rufus is singing through both his nose and his mouth at the same time. So we get two versions of the same sound, each slightly different. Further, he is singing with an 'open larynx', so we get a very full sound but one where the pronunciation becomes a little unusual. he also breaths from the very bottom of his lungs and this gives his voice the strenth to be as powereful at the end of the show as at the beginning. He said he had been very impressed by this when he saw him. He said that Rufus must have had a great deal of formal singing training, even if he dropped out of music school. He basically sings like a classical performer.
This was all news to me. All i knew was that he has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
Is there anyone out there who can add to/confirm/contradict this?
Has anyone else tried to access the commentary for Want One and Want Two in the Discography section? I get nothing. I e-mailed the site with no luck. :( Wonder where it's gone and wonder if it'll be back?
Allright, so i've decided to write down a few little things that I enjoy while listening to Rufus' music, and i don't mean lyrics or composition or melody, you'll know what I mean when I list mine:
- Barcelona
about 35 seconds in the song, after the Fuggi Regal Fantasima, when some instrument, I don't even know which one, goes from very high to very low, I think you'll need headphones to hear it...
- Beautiful Child
the way he sings the first lines: When I am older that these small god damned hills.
- Art teacher
the way he keeps time by saying Dum dum dum at the end of the instrumental part
- Danny Boy
The way he sings bayou near the end of the song
All i can come up with right now...i know this may seem very dorky and that's cause it is...
But the veteran Rufus listeners 'll know what i mean
Anyone heard anything more about the CD release for this dance piece? I heard (maybe from the old thread) that the theatre company were going to release it in the next few months.
Hi there... Was just wondering how you'd rank RTS within the five albums (ranking it as a whole album, not on the basis of individual songs.) Here's my positioning:
1. Want One 2. Rufus Wainwright 3. Want Two 4. Release The Stars 5. Poses*
* Of course, ranking a RW album fifth of five is only relative - I mean, my least favourite album of his is still about three million times more wonderful than most other albums in the world!)
Also, perhaps it's a little early to be ranking RTS, since although I've listened to it plenty, it is not - yet - a part of me in the way that, after many years of immersion, the others are....)
I just heard this Antony & The Johnsons song w/ Rufus on lead vocals for the first time today and I cannot stop listening. How could it have taken so long to discover this??? Does he ever play this live? (never did he on the occasions I've seen him).
Awright, so this is my plea to hear him play it in Toronto on June 11.
With the new album and all the new material we've been treated to recently how has it affected your previous best of Rufus tracklist? I haven't thought about my best of list in a while. At the moment, I would think it goes something like...
1) I Dont Know What It Is 2) Pretty Things 3) Agnus Dei 4) In A Graveyard 5) Slideshow 6) Memphis Skyline 7) Hallelujah 8) Es Mus Sein 9) Poses 10) Go Or Go Ahead 11) Vibrate 12) Nobody's Off The Hook 13) The Art Teacher 14) Release the Stars 15) Across the Universe 16) Imaginary Love 17) Low Grade Happiness 18) Greek Song 19) Vicious World 20) Do I Disappoint You 21) (Bonus for majorly emotional moments) - Dinner at Eight :)
Ive tried to keep it as narrow as possible, but with having so many favourites before combined with the new releases, it just gets harder and harder.
Just thought I'd re-start this topic in the new board. I've received an e-mail from Amazon saying my order for 'Rufus Wainwright: Anthology' has been indefinitely postponed, though this will come as no surprise to most.
Hopefully with this more accessible album there will be more fans, and so more of a reason for an official sheet music book to be released...fingers crossed.
