art teacher...
this has to be one of my favorites. It's just a great song. Rufus sounds amazing, plus I love the concept.
Rufus and the piano make a perfect team, although I like his more produced music, it doesn't compare to his stripped-down work. In my humble opinion. :)
I had an literature teacher in high school that I was completely infatuated with. But the fact that he was gay and I was a girl left me listening to this song over and over and over.
Amazing song, took me a few listens to fall for it, but I'm totally in love with it now! Can't decide whether I prefer the album version or the 'Release The Stars' version, though I suppose I like them both for differrent reasons!
One of the best songs that Rufus ever came up with! The point of view from which Rufus declares his feelings towards his/a teacher, reminds me of my time at high school when I envied all the girls being infatuated with some teacher, which I was, too, but they could run around expose their feeling, like pretending to faint exactly in front of their favourite teacher's parked car, while I started to follow the teacher's interests, e.g. by listening to the same music as the adored one did ... which brings me back to Rufus' sublime lyrics filled with sublimation of an unrequited love, that we all can relate to ... Whereas the musical texture in its minimal Glass-esque hectic seems to pay tribute to all the unresting souls so well acquainted to unobtainable passing fancies ... and yes ... never could I love another man!
This song reminds me of my mate Darren who also happens to be an art teacher and is very beautiful. i'm not in love with him though...just a small crush.
i swear i almost cried the first time i heard this song! such simple lyrics, but they create such perfect mental images! i also love how the first time i heard the album version i didn't even realize it was a live recording until i heard the applause at the end and was absolutely stunned!
