Has been my longstanding favourite as well.... and I have to say still sits firmly in the number 1 spot at the top of my favourites. Grandiose, magnificent, classical, pop-at-its-grandest. Simply amazing. Ive used so many descriptives over this song its hard to come up with anything new. The song is amazing both in its structure and its melody and harmonic progression. A track that mesmerised me, and makes me feel complete and full, and genuinely happy to be on this lil planet every time I hear it. And I cant ever see its effect changing.
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of Elton John and his style of songwriting so much... which is not a bad thing.
(I believe Elton John stated that it is his favourite because he loves to sing along to it. I so agree!)
It is my favourite Rufus "happy" song-- right up there with Oh What A World. Annnnd... It always motivates me when I feel like there is no reason or point in trying anymore. It's my more adult, "I think I can, I think I can." The first time I heard it, I had this life-changing epiphany about my need to prioritize and focus-- and that everything would turn out okay in the end. This man is genius, I'm telling you.
This is the one that hooked me and started my Rufus obsession! Oh what a world was the first track that intrigued me so I bought Want One and that was it! Rufus is performing this song on the RTS tour and very few old ones so he must surely see it as important. If I was trying to convert anyone to the music of Rufus I would choose this one song because of its all round accessibility and the fact that it is such a well crafted and well produced song. Love it!
This is my all time favourite, many others come close but I don't think I will ever love any song as much as this one. It is my husband's favourite too. I just never get fed up with it. We often play this in the car VERY loud and sing along to it. This song never fails to lift me up-it's musical perfection!!!!!
The best of Rufus. This song means so much to me that I can hardly explain. Every time I hear the opening I am transported. The way it builds...the sumptuous melodies and the way it develops.....the way it swoops and rises to the majestic..."I was hoping the train was MY BIG NUMBER.....taking the Sante Fe and the Atchison Topega". I must have flicked back on the CD to that line literally thousands of times. It's delivery, the harmonies just blows me away. The whole song encapsulates why Rufus is so amazing more so than any of of his for me. (Poses comes close). I will NEVER tire of this song.
This song is a real feel good song and I just love his delivery of the line: "So I knock on the door" especially the second time. So purely Rufus! I love it! Also I totally agree with and love the line: "Give me heaven or hell, Calais or Dover" Genius song, other than 'Oh What a World' it's the best on Want One.
