This has to be one of the greatest songs of all time. I can't get over this song, no matter how much time (or how many years) goes by. The climax still gives me chills.
I heard this song soon after I got to college and had my own issues. The lines, "So I will opt for the big white limos/ Vanity fairgrounds and rebel angels, you can't be trusted with feathers so hollow/ your (I thought it was 'you're') heaven's inventions, steel eyed vampires of love" made me take a good look at the ignorant shits with which I was spending my time, and to evaluate myself and my friends, which are now mostly books. Rufus has made me fastidious overall, a lot more goal-oriented, appreciative of intelligence and beauty, and altogether a lot more comfortable. I don't ever have to prove myself anymore, because I'm better than everyone around me. Conceited? Megalomania at it's best.

what a lovely 1st post sukie. yes it is amazing what rufus puts down in words and music has so much relevance in peoples lives.i must admit it was this song that affected me the most when i heard it,and over a period of time caused me to evaluate my own life,as i was going through so much personal sadness. i will always love him for that,it was better therapy than any counselling.
This song saved my life. It's mine all mine. I love it muchly. It says everything that there is to say so much so that it doesn't even need a thread. It just is.
This song is incredible, so haunting and mellow until it literally erupts into an epic cry of desperation...The length and maintained intensity throughout almost resembles the pattern of "high" a meth user would experience. One of the greatest songs of all time.
