This is my all time favorite song. Ever. This was the first song to ever effect me in such a way that I cried, not out of sadness but because I had never heard anything so beautiful in my life. I've said this a lot here and there, but I have Poses tattooed on my wrist because to me it is a constant reminder of so many things.
For me, this song is without equal. I recall a time I sat on the beach in Cannes, coming down after an entoxicatingly lovely and erotic night before; feeling heavy hearted and spent, lonely and used by a hurricane of a woman. Poses on my Ipod, the sun on my face, that song soothed my troubled soul. The version that appears on the DVD, with that additional 4 notes at the end never fails to haunt and stir me. The first time I heard the song live I sat, jaw drooped and eyes fixed on Rufus, tears in my eyes. That song will be the soundtrack of my passing from this life into the whatever. That he can come so close again, for me, with "Leaving for Paris" is itself proof of his genius. For me, no one can compare. I'm so excited by what's to come.
there's absolutely nothing anyone could do to this song to make it better. the piano and vocals are exquisite and i would play this for anyone who has troubles and wants to be lulled into perfect bliss. funny how rufus was writing it about someone else, without realizing he was actually writing about himself. the line "drunk and wearing flip-flops on fifth avenue" just sums him up. it's bloody fantastic.
{q a=[[Caspian]]}Do you have the exact chords???? Could you please post them here or to mefisto37@hotmail.com{/q}
sorry :( i should have been more clear. when i said i would play the song for someone, i meant like the actual song from the cd. i'd really love to learn to play it on the piano! but i can't find the sheet music. i've seen some floating around on the old message board which is basically what someone transcribed and is fairly close to the real thing:
unfortunately it's the best we can get at the moment. i really do hope they release an official sheet music book soon!!! it's so annoying that they haven't already
This song is beautiful. Listening to it makes you feel as if you are drunk, but drunk on beauty, if you can imagine that. I read a similar description of Poses in a magazine interview (can't remember which one) before I really listened to the song. Then I couldn't stop listening to it.

One of the biggest songs i could relate to and one of my favorite songs of all time.
Just a magnificent song. So achingly beautiful and funny and sad and soaring and tired all at the same time. I actually prefer the version on the All I Want DVD: completely unadorned, in all its glory. I especially love it when (on the DVD) he takes his left hand off the keys and sort of raises it to his heart, then crosses it over his right hand.... OK, I know this is a legitimate piano-technique-thingy but for some reason I find this action very moving.
Reading all your comments about it make it sound like the most fantastic song Rufus ever wrote...to be honest, it doesn't feel like that to me. It's a wonderful song, obviously and makes my top 20 but I don't think I could say it was perfect. Maybe I'm just weird :\
