I never was. My mother listened to them all the time when I was kid, and I always dreaded hearing their voices come through the speakers. Now though, I can't get enough! I truly am turning into my mother. :S

Thanks for sharing loopit-great article! I really enjoyed reading it.
I especially loved the story about Rufus, Martha and Kate waiting on line at the airport- having witnessed both Martha and Rufus talking with fans you can really tell Kate did raise them with a real sense of respect and humility.
I was a fan of Kate and Anna since 1986 when I was in high school, and Joe Boyd, who produced their first two records had a small label, Hannibal, devoted to the records that he produced (Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, Richard & Linda Thompson)--their first album is *****, then their next is either a little bit less good or a little bit better depending on the listener. Anyway, Rolling Stone record guide referred to them as charming, and for once, they got it right. I don't know which albums are in print and which not--I know their third PRONTO MONTO is oop--but they can be exhilerating, especially when they sing in French. Like most of the music Joe Boyd produced, it could have been played yesterday or five hundred years ago. And they both write great songs. I'M LOSING YOU, about Rufus, off of HEARTBEATS ACCELERATING, and I EAT DINNER & MATAPEDIA, about Martha, are all incredibly moving songs. They have gotten better with age.
I know they are an acquired taste, especially their voices, but acquire it! I've seen them play live twice, and they are a bit ragged, but when they hit their stride, they're terrific.
Of course, they're related through Loudon to the Roches, another sister-act I wish would have a second-wind. And Loudon is just a great songwriter, plus he used to be on M*A*S*H!!!!
