An Update From Rufus

April 10, 2014

Dear Fans,

It is with huge gratitude that I write to you. Not even three weeks ago did we start our campaign to raise funds to record my first opera Prima Donna and we are already over 47%. But it is also with urgency that I write to you as we have almost a bit more than half to go to make this happen. Writing my first opera was probably the most dramatic thing in my life, which is already pretty dramatic to begin with. So much of me is in that piece, the triumphant and hesitant diva, the obnoxious and plotting butler, the innocent maid and the brash journalist. And it is with great gratitude that I am writing my second opera, Hadrian, but more on that later.

I was just in London to do a show at the Drury Lane Theater. London has a very special place in my heart. I started my career in the US but it was the UK that really embraced me heavily. In London we also did the “Hallelujah” chorus for the first time. Over 60 fans joined me on stage to sing the chorus on “Hallelujah” and since they were so incredible I decided to leave them on stage and join me on “Poses” as well. I was impressed and it made me really look forward to writing for choir in my new opera, Hadrian. Below is a picture and we are posting the video on the PledgeMusic campaign page .

We have four more “Hallelujah” choirs to do. NY next week, followed by LA and San Francisco. Reading some of the comments online it seems people had a really great time. Check out my message board here and sign up for NY, LA and the two SF shows.

Also a special shout out here to my friends in Australia and New Zealand. At your fervent request we offer “Hallelujah” chorus, special VIP, and the “Feux d’Artifices” dedication experiences on my next trip down there. I will be back for sure and the more you Pledge the more I look forward to coming.

I will also be posting some exciting new personal items to be sold for the campaign in the next few days.

I am having many conversations in the next few weeks with record labels and a company who might want to set up a tour around Prima Donna. And will also continue my conversations with Francesco Vezzoli to produce something quite special for those Prima Donna orchestral shows.

I also heard in London that Universal is really pleased how Vibrate is doing so thank you everyone for buying that album. If everyone who bought Vibrate would also prebuy the Prima Donna album starting at a mere $15 USD on PledgeMusic.com I would already be in heaven.

And you might have heard that yesterday the Luminato Festival announced a next big project of mine: If I Loved You: Gentlemen Prefer Broadway — An Evening Of Love Duets. I will be singing classic Broadway love duets with an all male cast including David Byrne, Glen Hansard, Josh Groban, Andrew Rannells, Ezra Koenig, Brennan Hall, Steven Page, and the incomparable Boy George. June 14th at the Sony Center. More info here.

See you on the tour and please join the community of Prima Donna pledgers.
